The R for Repair project was due to be exhibited in the V&A Museum in London and we needed a website for visitors at the museum. However, the 2022 edition was in progress and the site needed to be designed concurrently.
The Home page would be kept simple as a one pager with breakpoints for 2022 and 2021 editions. While working on the wireframes, I felt there was most potential for our project buttons to be the unique factor. I was most drawn to these arrangements as they reminded me of a gallery of paintings laid out on the museum walls – fitting of the context where the 2022 edition would be held.
Animations
As the cherry on top, an animated logo would be a good extension since we’re working with a digital medium. I reworked the logos in After Effects and Illustrator.
In the 2021 edition, they created a custom typeface that uses the counters (negative space) to replace roundish elements (eg. letters with a dot like i & j). I imagined a little explosion that “breaks” the negatives with one flying to drop on the ‘i’.
The 2022 logo’s concept was relatively straightforward with a slash in the center. I tried several variations by adjusting the time and speed of the cut and reattach sequence for the sweet spot.
